I have always liked Facebook. It's a place that I can share all of the day to day going ons of my family with friends and family. So much nicer than having to call and say this is what Sierra did today. We have a very large family.
I never had been effected by the evilness of Facebook until we had a falling out with a friend. This friend decided to post on Facebook their skewed point of view which painted us in a bad light. This cause lots of pain and heartache in our small family. 2 days of hell.
Things are patched up with this friend, but the damaged is done. Those hateful hurtful words are forever cemented in cyberspace and the minds of those who read them.
I am not posting this to gain sympathy or to get back at the friend, but to warn of the dangers of Facebook.
I have deactivated my Facebook account. I need a break. I will not be gone from Facebook forever. It might be a month, or it might be a year. When I do decide to go back I will make major changes. My security will be much higher. My friend list will drastically change in size. Do I really need to share my life with an acquaintance? Do I need to include them if they are in my ward? I think not. My friends list will consist of those I hold near and dear. There will be people that I have no problem sharing my life with them, but their posts are negative, inappropriate, or worthless. These people will be hidden. Friends that air personal feuds on Facebook will be deleted. It is not the place to do that. And who says if they can do it to another that they won't turn around and do it to me. No thanks, been there and not doing it again.
The friend that started this all will be forgiven, but has lost the privilege of being my Facebook friend. This friend in the heat of the moment deleted me, but continued to message me. To prevent this friend from doing so I blocked them and it will remain that way.
Facebook can be a positive place, but if we allow it I can consume us. We have been taught to surround ourselves with all that is good. Shouldn't this apply on Facebook? For me it will.
